Tesla CEO Elon Musk has ofter mentioned that he things the Model Y will be the world’s best-selling car, electric or otherwise. Many people laughed. Now Musk has growing evidence that he may be onto something.
Our SMMT just issued September sales data and the Tesla Model Y was the 2nd best seller, only 1000 units behind the Nissan Qashqai.
Tesla suffers from lumpy sales as cars are shipped in at large volumes on boats direct from the Tesla factories. We assume this boat was from China and was carrying 10,000 or so cars. SMMT also report total Tesla sales for September as 9,975 units and thus we can conclude the Model 3 sold 1,660 units.
This gives Tesla a UK market share of 4.4% for September.
